Applied Econometrics

Image
Applied Econometrics To complete the research project, you should follow the following steps (additional information can be found in Chapter 11 of the Studenmund Econometrics text): 1. Planning for the project, based on Economic Theory In general your paper will be testing an economic theory. For example, you may want to test the law of demand or supply, or ascertain what determines the level of imports, or savings, or consumption or investment or wages or the U.S. government deficit or state tax revenues. Specify what variables are important in the model and the expected signs on the coefficients of these variables. For example, theory would tell us that if a demand function is to be estimated the relevant independent variables that influence quantity demanded would be price, income, price of complements, and price of substitutes. The signs underneath the variables indicate what type of relationship each has with quantity demanded. A minus sign implies an inverse relatio...

Human Services Area of Interest

Image
Human Services Area of Interest Human services is a complex field, incorporating multiple areas, including clinical social work, counseling, criminal justice, disaster and crisis management, family problem interventions, public health, and social policy analysis and planning. Each area began with a few people who had the common goal of helping others in their community. For example, in 1844 a group of young men formed the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) to meet the social needs of a community. The YMCA began as a center for young Christian men to find healthy and morally upright activities to fill their free time. It has evolved over time to be an international network of popular community centers open to all ages and genders. The organization also works with a number of human service organizations that support healthy communities. As you prepare for the Discussion, reflect on an area of human services that is of interest to you. Consider human services organizations that...

Compare and contrast an element of dubai planning policy and practice with the equivalent aspect in Scotland, and make recommendations for the improvement of both systems. Each student should choose a particular area of policy and practice (element) for comparison. The areas selected should be narrow enough for a detailed comparison and in-depth analysis. You can focus, for example, on affordable housing policies and provision, regeneration of run down residential areas, waterfront development, promotion of economic development etc. You should avoid selecting a very wide area (e.g. the national land use planning system) and therefore making very general journalist style observations. Your essay should include the following discussion and analysis: • A short justi...

CORPORATE RESISTANCE TO DODD-FRANK LEGISLATION

Image
CORPORATE RESISTANCE TO DODD-FRANK LEGISLATION The Securities and Exchange Commission attempted to develop regulations with regards to shareholder proxy access following the legal authorization to do so in the Dodd-Frank legislation. The Business Roundtable and other business groups challenged the SEC rule-making and the Federal Court ruled against the SEC. The SEC did not appeal the court decision, but enacted a different and less comprehensive rule regarding proxy access that the court did not rule against and therefore was allowed to go into effect. Since then some shareholders have tried to achieve proxy access in their respective corporations. The SEC has now proposed rules regarding how corporations report executive pay to shareholders. Dodd-Frank allowed the SEC to enact rules that would direct corporations to compute a ratio of executive pay to average worker pay. The Business Roundtable and other business groups oppose this rule and are thinking out bringing another lawsui...
