Root Cause of Environmental Problems in Magdoff and foster & Jensen

We have now heard two perspectives that purport to identify the root cause of environmental problems. Both Magdoff & Foster and Jensen, contend that capitalism (or civilization, for the latter) is the driving force behind environmental degradation. Moreover, Jensen argues that any way of life based on extraction requires violence and exploitation. Are either or both of these arguments – that our way of life is a) unsustainable and b) violent/exploitative – correct? In the course of your answer be sure t0 explain and evaluate each of these arguments and their evidence. Identify and respond to at least one counter-argument to your claims.
