 a detailed understanding of appropriate aspects of the chosen theorist’s
ideas;
 an evaluation of the applicability and usefulness of these ideas in a selected
educational setting or phase;
 a resulting educational activity which critically applies the theorist’s ideas
within this educational phase/setting.
In short: what we are really looking for in this essay is a sense that you can take a
theorist’s ideas, test and apply them in a realistic (albeit hypothetical) arts education
activity.
Some important tips:
 This essay is all about applying theory to practice. Don’t just try to ‘shoe-horn’
your activity into the theory. Instead, use your knowledge of the everyday
realities of your chosen educational phase or setting to challenge the theory.
